WoW Forever Leveling Guide

What Blizzard has said about leveling in World of Warcraft: Forever, level by level: the new zones and dungeons on the way to 60, the experience changes that favor questing over dungeon farming, where the new quests are, and the rested XP, camping, food and travel changes that speed you up.

Compiled from Blizzard’s panel recaps and developer interviews (the interview behind each claim is named in the sentence), with dungeon and zone levels, beta caps, camping values and Legacy perks read from our other guides. Last reviewed: .

WoW Forever leveling roadmap by level

This chart places what Blizzard has announced on the 1–60 journey: the 4 new zones and the 9 new dungeons, the first of them at level 13. It is a map of new content, not a route. The original zones are where most of the leveling still happens, and Blizzard hasn’t said which of them to pick.

Each dungeon links to its own page, and the WoW Forever dungeons guide lists all of them with their entrances. The WoW Forever zones guide covers the new zones, including the two without an announced level range.

Experience changes: quests over dungeon farming

Curve

Same total to 60

In its interview with The Sun, Blizzard said the experience curve to level 60 hasn’t changed. What changed is where the experience comes from.

Dungeons

Mobs give less, quests give more

In the same interview, dungeon enemies give much less experience and dungeon quests much more. The first clear, with its quests, is worth it; running the same dungeon again and again isn’t. Blizzard wants people out in the world, not being boosted through dungeons.

Food

Crafted food adds XP

Almost all crafted food gives stats plus a small experience bonus. The example shown at BlizzCon gave 5% more experience from kills for 15 minutes. One dish, not a rule for all of them.

Boosts

No boosts planned

Clay Stone told Destin there are no plans for a WoW Token or a character boost, and that everyone starts at level 1 at launch. “No plans” isn’t a promise for later.

Tagging

Kill credit isn’t shared

Aggrend said on X that Forever won’t switch to modern WoW’s shared kill credit: a bit of friction keeps players talking to each other.

Blizzard hasn’t given percentages for the dungeon change. What it means for each dungeon is on the WoW Forever dungeons page.

Kill speed and pulls from level 10–15

In an interview with MMORPG.com (as summarized by Wowhead), the developers said that from around level 10–15 one enemy takes 10–15 seconds to kill, and that pulling 3 or more at once will probably get you killed.

Blizzard also says there is no level scaling: zones keep their levels, and an area above your level stays dangerous. Blizzard wants the world to feel dangerous without being hard for its own sake, so pull one enemy at a time and keep crowd control for when a second one joins.

Where the 1,000+ new quests are

In an interview with GameSpot (Wowhead’s summary), the developers put the original game at around 3,000–3,500 quests against the 1,000+ Forever adds, with 50–200 in each new zone and new content from about level 5. Here is where Blizzard and its developers have placed them:

  • Starting zones. Valley of Trials, Shadowglen and the other starting areas get new characters, quests, profession introductions and recipes (Found Photos panel).
  • Wetlands. New quests that build on the zone’s characters, plus a new dungeon at an excavation site, on the chart above (Found Photos panel).
  • Azshara. Many new quests, according to both the GameSpot and MMORPG.com interviews.
  • Desolace. More content and new faction rewards for the centaur faction quests (Found Photos panel).
  • Levels 30–50. In an interview with Sportskeeda, the developers said most new quests went into zones for those levels.
  • Gaps in old zones. Places that never had quests get some; the IGN Nordic interview gave a kobold cave in northern Elwynn Forest as the example, and some existing questlines are longer.
  • The new zones. Each has quests of its own; see the chart above for where they fall and the WoW Forever zones guide for their stories.

Rested XP, camping and food

Forever adds several ways to earn experience faster. Camping comes first: in the beta, a quest at about level 5 teaches it. Sit by a campfire for 60 seconds and you keep the camp’s buffs for 1 hour. The Leatherworking camp object, the Camp Tent, grants rested experience, up to 5% of a level (Wowhead’s camping guide, from the beta client).

A hidden questline you can start at level 14 ends in the Cozy Sleeping Bag: lie in it and you become rested and gain an experience bonus that stacks up to 3 times, on a 1-hour cooldown (Wowhead’s beta guide). Crafted food with an experience bonus, like the 5% example above, adds on top.

The camp buffs, every profession’s camp object and the campfire tiers are on the WoW Forever professions page.

Legacy perks that help leveling

Legacy Points are earned by your account and spent by each character, and Blizzard built the system to make leveling alts rewarding. Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap names Well Rested; the ranks and first-rank values below come from BlizzCon demo tooltips and Wowhead, and can still change. Every perk is in the WoW Forever Legacy System guide.

Adventure perks for leveling, first rank as seen in the BlizzCon demo
PerkRanksFirst rank
Well Rested5Rested experience builds up 4% faster, and the rested experience cap is 4% higher.
Talented5Talent points start at level 9 instead of 10. You still can't have more than 51.
Thrill of Adventure5Killing a non-trivial enemy restores 1% of your maximum Health and Mana over 10 sec. Not in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds.
Frequent Flier1Flight paths cost 50% less, and the flight is 20% faster.

Getting around: ships, riding and flight paths

Three new ship routes shorten the trips between continents and to the Riverglades (Found Photos panel):

  • Stormwind Harbor – Auberdine: an early crossing between the continents
  • Menethil – Southshore – Auberdine: a second route with more choice while leveling
  • Tanaris – Powderfuse Port: the Steamwheedle Cartel’s ship to the Riverglades

In an interview with Sportskeeda, the developers said your gold goes on riding training, costing 100 or 1,000 gold depending on the level, and that the first mount is free once you’ve trained. Blizzard hasn’t said at which levels. There are no flying mounts in Forever, so flight paths and ships stay the way to cross the world; the Frequent Flier perk above makes flights cheaper and faster.

The ports on a map are in the WoW Forever zones guide.

Dungeons while leveling

Run each new dungeon once, with its quests: that is where the experience is now. There is no retail-style dungeon finder. The BlizzCon demo had Classic’s Looking For Group window, where you list and form groups yourself; it doesn’t auto-match or teleport you, and the Burning Crusade meeting stones that summon the party to the door weren’t in the demo. Each dungeon has one difficulty.

Levels, entrances and the loot changes are in the WoW Forever dungeons guide.

Leveling in the beta

The beta runs Sep 17 – Oct 21. According to a BlizzCon interview with Clay Stone and Nora Mills, it starts at level 20 and the cap then rises to 30 for the rest of the test. Progress doesn’t carry over: at launch on November 4, 2026, everyone starts at level 1.

Because no one can level past 30 before launch, this guide will add routes and leveling times only once players have tested them. Dates and beta access are on the WoW Forever release date page.
