WoW Forever Mounts

You still ride at level 40 in WoW Forever, but the gold has moved. Riding training is the big purchase and comes with a mount; every mount after that is far cheaper than in Classic. The beta client lists 141 mounts, 42 of them not in Classic.

Mounts, levels, riding skill and item prices are read from the beta client (build 1.60.1.70170) and compared with the Classic Era client. Beta data can change before launch. Last checked .

Your first mount

Pick a race and a class above. At level 40 you train Apprentice Riding for about 100 gold and get a mount with it. Paladins and Warlocks learn theirs from a class quest instead. The stables are Classic’s: the trainers and vendors stand in the same spots in Wowhead’s Forever database, but what they teach and sell in the beta isn’t confirmed.

Riding skill and gold: WoW Forever vs Classic

Riding and mount costs in Classic Era and in the WoW Forever beta. Item levels and prices: the two clients’ item tables. Training prices: a developer interview.

Riding skillA separate skill for each kind of mount (Horse Riding, Wolf Riding …)One Riding skill, 75 then 150; the 9 kinds are abilities under it
Where mounts liveItems in your bagsA mount journal: the client has a table of 141 mount records, Classic’s has none
Flying mountsNoNo (Blizzard)

Blizzard calls this the Burning Crusade approach: the up-front cost of a mount moves into riding training, and learning to ride grants a mount. Collecting gets cheap: the client prices a second 60% mount at 20 gold and a swift one at 200.

A mount still needs its kind’s riding ability. Each race has one of its own, and the Skyborne bring a new one, Galestrider Riding. Whether another race can learn it the Classic way, through reputation, hasn’t been shown in the beta.

WoW Forever mounts FAQ

What level do you get a mount in WoW Forever?

Level 40 for a 60% mount and level 60 for a 100% one: those are the levels the beta client’s mount items require, the same as in Classic. Paladin and Warlock class mounts are level 40 and 60 spells.

How much gold does a mount cost?

A developer told Sportskeeda riding training costs 100 or 1,000 gold depending on the tier, and Blizzard says a mount comes with the training. Extra mounts are 20 gold (60%) and 200 gold (100%) in the client’s item table. Nobody could check the trainers in the beta yet.

Are there flying mounts?

No. Blizzard says WoW Forever has no flying mounts.

Can I ride the Cerulean Prideclaw at level 1?

No. Blizzard says riding must be learned in game, and the client’s item asks for level 60 and Journeyman Riding. The Loyal Companion from the Epic Pack rides from level 40.

Do the Skyborne have their own mounts?

Yes: 8 Galestriders, which need the new riding ability Galestrider Riding. Where their trainer and vendor stand hasn’t been reported.

Still unconfirmed

  • The level and gold riding trainers ask for in game: the client doesn’t carry trainer prices
  • Whether Classic’s stables teach and sell the same mounts, and whether reputation still lowers the price
  • Where the Galestrider trainer and vendor are
  • Whether another race’s mounts still need Exalted reputation
  • How to get the Swift Hyjal Stag, Caravan Kodo and Venomhide Ravasaur
  • Whether the Classic raid, reputation and PvP mounts are earned the same way at launch
