WoW Forever edition prices

Euro prices are from the EU Battle.net Shop on Sep 17. The US Battle.net Shop showed us our local currency instead of dollars, so the US pack prices come from the press, including Warcraft Tavern’s copy of the US store’s comparison table in US dollars. The Collector’s Edition price is from the US Gear Store. The shop sells the upgrades in the Americas & Oceania, Europe, Korea and Taiwan regions and may show prices in your own currency.

Heroic vs Epic vs Collection: everything in each pack

Each pack includes everything in the cheaper pack before it. The shop also marks where each item works: some in both Forever and modern WoW, some only in Forever, and none in WoW Classic. The Collector’s Edition code unlocks the same items as the Collection.

You need to buy the riding skill in game before you can ride the Cerulean Prideclaw. Housing decor only works in modern WoW, where Housing needs World of Warcraft: Midnight, sold separately.

Is WoW Forever free? Subscription and Game Time

• Not free to play, but no box to buy. World of Warcraft, Forever included, needs a subscription or Game Time. The same subscription that covers modern WoW covers Forever from launch, with nothing else to buy.
• The upgrades are optional. They add the Skyborne race, early name reservation and cosmetics, and from the Epic Pack up, beta access and Game Time.
• One race costs extra: the Skyborne. The Battle.net Shop says the Skyborne race and its Zephras Isle starting quests need the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition, and Blizzard Support says Invite-A-Friend codes don’t unlock them. The Skyborne race and its price tag were the most argued-over part of the reveal on Reddit and Blizzard’s forums; the race itself is covered in how to unlock the Skyborne.
• 30 days of Game Time come with the Epic Pack and the Collection, added to your account at launch on Nov 4. Playing past those days needs a subscription or more Game Time.
• The beta needs no Game Time, but it does need beta access: the Epic Pack, the Collection, the Collector’s Edition or a lucky website sign-up. Beta dates and the ways to get in are on the release date and beta page.
• Invited friends play launch week free. Every edition you buy for yourself on the Battle.net Shop or the Blizzard Gear Store comes with Invite-A-Friend codes (gift orders and an Epic-to-Collection upgrade add none) that let a friend play Forever from Nov 4 to Nov 11 without a subscription.
• No Token or paid boosts planned. In an interview with Destin, Clay Stone said Blizzard has no plans for a WoW Token or character boosts in Forever. That is “no plans”, not a promise.

When we checked on Sep 17, the US Gear Store listing carried a Sold Out label and its pre-order button was switched off. That is one store on one day: we haven’t seen stock news for Europe or for the local retailers in Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

What’s in the box

• A Warcraft Forever Collection code: the Skyborne Epic Pack, Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, with 30 days of Game Time (beta access comes separately by email, see below)
• A 13-inch statue of the Dwarf hunter and his bear, the pair from the original World of Warcraft cinematic
• A Zephras Isle mousepad, art prints of Hyjal Summit and the Riverglades, a pair of pins and a companion journal

Beta and codes before the box ships

• Beta access comes as a code, emailed to the address you ordered with. Redeem it on the account you play on; Blizzard Support can’t replace lost codes or help with a code redeemed on the wrong account.
• 3 Invite-A-Friend codes arrive the same way, shortly after purchase. Buy the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Collection on Battle.net as well and you have 6 in total. Collector’s Editions bought from local retailers in Korea, Australia and New Zealand come without these codes.
• The rest comes with the box. The Gear Store says the Collection code comes in a separate envelope, and both the Gear Store and Blizzard’s Collector’s Edition announcement tell buyers who want the digital items before the box arrives to buy a digital edition on the Battle.net Shop. Players on Blizzard’s forums posted replies they say came from Blizzard Support: only beta access and the Invite-A-Friend codes arrive early, while the Game Time, early name reservation (Oct 27 to Nov 3) and the Warcraft III games unlock once the box arrives and its code is redeemed; one player’s copy adds that name reservation can’t be guaranteed. Blizzard hasn’t published that list, so treat the details as unconfirmed.

Buy digital now, redeem the box later

To play with the pack items before the box arrives, buy a digital edition on the Battle.net Shop. When you redeem the Collector’s Edition code before December 31, 2027, what you paid for that digital edition comes back automatically as Battle.net Balance, Blizzard Support says. Not every purchase qualifies: an upgrade you bought, such as Heroic to Epic, isn’t credited automatically (ask Blizzard Support), and Warcraft III: Reforged orders aren’t credited at all.

Shipping: the US Gear Store ships only to select places in North and South America, and local retailers in Korea, Australia and New Zealand sell their own Collector’s Editions. In Europe, Blizzard said on its forums that the store added a €45 standard shipping rate for orders of one Collector’s Edition to 27 countries, including the UK, Germany and France (Spain and Portugal weren’t listed), after a player reported a €191 rate. The code inside works in North America, Latin America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Upgrades, gifts and Invite-A-Friend codes

• You can upgrade later. Blizzard Support describes upgrades from the Heroic Pack to the Epic Pack or the Collection; upgrading tops your Invite-A-Friend codes up to 3. Epic to Collection adds none.
• Gifts work, minus the friend codes. The Battle.net Shop has a Gift button, but gift orders come without Invite-A-Friend codes.
• Gifted beta access isn’t spelled out. Blizzard’s beta support article only tells players whose upgrade was a gift to talk to the friend who sent it. One Reddit player said a gifted Epic Pack does bring the beta with no code to redeem; Blizzard hasn’t confirmed that.
• How friend codes work. Each code arrives in its own email from Oct 20, or shortly after purchase for later orders. Your friend redeems it on Battle.net by Nov 11 and plays from launch until then. A code doesn’t unlock Skyborne, isn’t Game Time, and can’t be redeemed on an account that bought any Forever upgrade. Lost codes aren’t replaced.
• Name reservation stays on one account. Early name reservation, Oct 27 to Nov 3, works only on the WoW account the pack was bought for: up to 3 characters, first come, first served. Names are unique across your whole region, as the servers page explains.
