WoW Forever Legacy System

The Legacy System is Forever's account-wide progression for players who start over with new characters. Legacy Challenges award Legacy Points, each character spends those points on perks in three Legacy trees, and the running total unlocks collectibles. Blizzard built it to make leveling alts rewarding without Hardcore's stakes.

Rules and reward thresholds come from Blizzard's Deep Dive recap and its screenshots; perk ranks and values come from BlizzCon 2026 demo tooltips and can change in the beta (September 17). Last reviewed: .

How the Legacy System works

Legacy Challenges are goals laid over normal play, such as leveling a class or reaching a profession milestone. Each one you complete adds Legacy Points to your account. Every character then spends up to 16 of them in its own Legacy trees, so an alt can take different perks from your main.

Blizzard's screenshot of a Legacy tree shows a right-click-to-unlearn hint, so spent points aren't locked in. Whether unlearning costs anything hasn't been explained.

Legacy Challenges

Blizzard's examples are leveling a specific class and reaching a profession skill milestone, and it says challenges should reward the way people already play rather than send them on odd errands. The challenge window in its screenshot sorts them into six categories: Classes, Tradeskills, Player vs. Player, Adventure, Dungeons and Raids.

Challenges seen in the demo

  • Classes: reach level 25, 45 and 60 with a class for the first time.
  • Tradeskills: reach 150, 225 and 300 skill in a profession for the first time.
  • Player vs. Player: PvP ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14, and Field of Honor goals for weeks 4, 7 and 10.
  • Dungeons and raids: sets of dungeons (the Spelunker challenges), plus Onyxia's Lair, Hyjal Summit and the Barrow Deeps.

Each challenge in the demo screenshots is worth 1 Legacy Point, and Wowhead's write-up reports the same. Wowhead also mentions exploration and reputation goals. The full list isn't public yet.

Legacy trees and every perk seen so far

21 perks have turned up across the three trees, in demo tooltips shared by players and in Wowhead's write-up. Blizzard's recap names three of them: Well Rested, Bountiful Harvest and Reagent Economy. The effect shown is each perk's first rank; later ranks haven't been shown.

Adventure

Leveling and getting around: more rested experience, earlier talent points, cheaper flights and faster recovery between pulls. Talented starts your talent points a level earlier, which shifts leveling builds planned in the talent calculator.

Legacy Reward Track

Every Legacy Point you earn moves the reward track, whether you spend it or not. Blizzard describes the rewards as cosmetic or prestige items that give no competitive advantage.

Legacy Points across rulesets and Hardcore

Forever has no traditional realms; you pick a ruleset instead: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, or Hardcore once it opens after launch. Legacy Points and collections are shared by all the rulesets on your account, with one exception: progress earned in Hardcore carries over to the other rulesets, but progress from the others doesn't count in Hardcore.

What Blizzard plans to add

Blizzard says the Legacy System is built to grow. Its recap lists:

  • New challenges and new perks
  • More ways to spend Legacy Points
  • A higher spending cap
  • New columns in the existing trees
  • Possibly entirely new trees

WoW Forever Legacy System FAQ

Are Legacy Points shared between characters?

Yes. You earn them across your account, and each character spends them separately in its own Legacy trees.

How many Legacy Points can a character spend?

Up to 16 at launch. You can keep earning past that, up to 65 points at launch, and every point still counts toward the reward track.

Do Legacy perks add combat power?

The perks seen so far help with leveling, professions, reputation, honor and upkeep rather than damage or healing. The reward track is cosmetic, and Blizzard says it gives no competitive advantage.

Does the Legacy System work in Hardcore?

Hardcore is a closed ruleset. What you earn there carries over to Normal, PvP and Roleplaying, but points and collections from those rulesets don't carry into Hardcore.

Can I change my Legacy perks?

Blizzard's screenshot of a Legacy tree tells you to right-click a perk to unlearn it. Whether that has a cost hasn't been said.

Is there a Legacy perk calculator?

Not yet. The demo shows each perk's first rank but not what later ranks do, what they cost or the full tree layout, so a planner would be guesswork. We'll build one when the beta shows the full trees.

Still unconfirmed

  • What later ranks of each perk do, and what each rank costs
  • Tree layouts, and whether some perks require others
  • When and how the spending cap rises (demo tooltips call it seasonal)
  • The full list of Legacy Challenges
  • Where rewards are collected (demo tooltips name Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet)
  • Whether unlearning a perk costs anything
