Hall of Thanes: WoW Forever Dungeon Guide

The lowest-level new dungeon in World of Warcraft: Forever, for levels 13–18, sits under Ironforge: someone has broken into the resting place of the old dwarven kings.

What the beta shows in Hall of Thanes

4 bosses and 5 Alliance quests in the beta. The trash hits hard, and the XP is in the quests: dungeon mobs give little in Forever.

Bosses

  1. 1

    Faldrim Anvilmar Wowhead: Faldrim Anvilma

    • Undead

Puts a nasty debuff on the tank. Clear the trash around him first.

  2. 2

    Infurnus Wowhead: Magmatus

    • Elemental

Kill the summoning add first, and tank him away from the group: his area damage hits everyone near.

  3. 3

    Plunder

    • Elemental

His knockback throws you far — don’t stand where you’d land in a trash pack.

  4. 4

    Durgen Dirgehammer

    • Humanoid
    • Level 16
    • Final boss

Where this comes from

Boss names and their order are the beta client’s own (DungeonEncounter, build 1.60.1.70790). Where Wowhead writes a boss’s name differently, its card shows Wowhead’s name as a badge; this page keeps the client’s names until the game settles them.

Boss types, tactics, the final boss’s level, the quests, their XP and the rewards are from Wowhead’s walkthrough of September 24: two quests are picked up just outside the dungeon, two inside, and the main one in Dun Morogh. The reward items aren’t in the client’s item table yet, so only the items the client has show game tooltips.

All of it is beta content: names, numbers and loot can change before launch.

What Blizzard has said about Hall of Thanes

In Blizzard’s What’s Next panel, Nora Mills described the Hall of Thanes as the royal tombs of the dwarven kings, broken into by someone who should not be there. Ghostly whispers run through the halls, and there are ancient treasures to protect. Blizzard’s suspicion points at the Dark Irons.

It is one of only two new dungeons Blizzard pitched to a faction: the Hall of Thanes is the Alliance’s, and Blizzard said the Horde will have to sneak in or fight its way in. How that works has not been explained, and the same goes for the Alliance and the Horde-facing Ruins of Lordaeron.

On the WoW Forever Podcast episode 3, the designers said the easy road for the Alliance is deliberate, as Ragefire Chasm’s is for the Horde, and that the dungeon is not Alliance-only: some of its quests were opened to the Horde on purpose. Asked whether there is a Horde entrance, they answered “You’ll have to find out.”

The level range comes from Kaivax’s September 15 forum post, which lists the official name as The Hall of Thanes at levels 13–18.

Where Hall of Thanes is

Blizzard places the dungeon beneath Ironforge, in Dun Morogh. Wowhead’s dungeon overview guide says the same and a reader adds a spot at the High Seat, coordinates 43, 51.

The beta confirms the spot: in Wowhead’s walkthrough the entrance is in Old Ironforge, a newly opened part of the city beneath the High Seat.

At 13–18 it is the earliest stop on the leveling route, a few levels before the Horde-facing Ruins of Lordaeron at 15–20.
