WoW Forever Beta Datamine: New Zones, Dungeons and Maps

The Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.69913) has 12 maps and 136 areas the Classic Era client (1.15.9.69722) doesn’t. A map is a world, a dungeon or a battleground the game can load; an area is a named place on a map, from a whole zone down to one camp. This page checks every zone, dungeon and raid Blizzard has announced against the client, and lists what is there that nobody has announced.

Counted by us from the client’s own tables on . A map in a beta client isn’t a promise it opens at launch.

26 more new maps and areas are left out: test maps and the development copies of old zones the client carries (a second Elwynn Forest, Stormwind and Burning Steppes filed under an internal name). The methodology page has the rules.

Announced zones, dungeons and raids in the client

We looked up every zone, dungeon and raid the site has a page for by its name. A map of its own means the place can be loaded. A new area means the place is named on a map: enough for a zone, but for a dungeon it means no instance yet. The places with nothing in the client are the ones Blizzard puts later in the journey or after launch.

  • Loadable now: Zephras Isle has a world map of its own, and the Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, the Excavation Site and the City of Dalaran have dungeon maps: the dungeons of the first half of leveling.
  • Names only: Krol’dok Stronghold is an area in the Riverglades and the Shaper’s Terrace one in Un’Goro Crater; neither has a dungeon map in this build.
  • Renamed: the Blackmaw Hold dungeon takes over the ID of Timbermaw Hold, and Mount Hyjal the ID of an old, unused Hyjal area.
  • Not yet: the Drowned City, Alcaz Prison, the Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit. Onyxia’s Lair keeps its Classic map.

New maps

Next to the announced dungeons, two dungeon-type maps have no announcement behind them: Manor Mistmantle and the Half-Pint Tavern. The two battleground maps are Darkspear Islands and the Battle for Gilneas, and Warsong Gulch gets a winter version; the PvP guide says what is and isn’t announced for each. Hyjal Crater is filed as an arena-type map.

New zones and their sub-areas

Zephras Isle and the Riverglades are the most detailed, with 21 new zones in all. The surprise is Ruins of Gilneas on the Eastern Kingdoms map, with Gilneas City, the Blackwald and seven more places inside it. Blizzard has named Gilneas only as one of Azeroth’s unfinished stories (see the zones guide), so read it as work in the files, not a zone at launch.

New places in old zones

31 new sub-areas sit in 14 zones Classic already has. Mount Hyjal gets the most, from Elderwild to the Summit of Eternity. Others point to things players will notice on old maps: Stormwind Harbor, an Ironforge Submarine Facility in Dun Morogh, Old Dalaran Ruins in the Alterac Mountains, and new places in Mulgore, Tirisfal Glades and Azshara.

Sources and scope

Counted by us from the Map and AreaTable tables of the Forever beta client 1.60.1.69913 against the Classic Era client 1.15.9.69722. They say what places exist and on which map, not their levels, what’s in them or when they open. How we count: beta datamine methodology; the rest of the series: new items and new spells.

In the client, not confirmed

  • A map or area in the beta client doesn’t mean it ships; unannounced places like Gilneas or Manor Mistmantle can stay unused.
  • Places missing from this build can still come in later builds.
  • We match announced places by name; a place the client names differently would show as missing.
