What Blizzard has said about the Barrow Deeps

To the night elves the Barrow Deeps is a sacred place. Barrow dens are scattered across the land, and their winding tunnels are said to lead to one pivotal place; no one knows how far or how deep they run. The night elves hold some of their most dangerous prisoners there, and in the What’s Next panel Blizzard said rumor has it an infamous demon hunter was once kept there — perhaps, it added, you’ll get to see his prison.

The night elves are wary of letting anyone in, allies included, and like the furbolgs of Blackmaw Hold they may be struggling against some kind of corruption. The panel’s advice was to send no fewer than 10 of your greatest adventurers.

Blizzard’s recap calls it a maximum-level 10-player challenge, and says the Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit together set the stage for raid encounters, new tier sets and a legendary reward Blizzard will reveal in full later. The recap doesn’t say which of the two raids the sets or the legendary come from.

Where the Barrow Deeps is and how you get in

• Three entrances. In the What’s Next panel, Blizzard said Mount Hyjal holds one of the three entrances to the Barrow Deeps. See Mount Hyjal in WoW Forever.
• Through Blackmaw Hold? The panel said the tunnels leading into the furbolg city of Blackmaw Hold run deep, and whoever explores them might find an entirely different kind of danger: a hint, not a named entrance.
• The third entrance hasn’t been named.
• No summons at the meeting stone. Meeting stones open the Looking for Group feature but don’t summon, Blizzard’s designers told Kotaku, so without a warlock the raid travels there.
• Same ruleset, same faction. Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap says you group only with players who chose the same ruleset, and in the September 17 Live Q&A Blizzard said there is no cross-faction play.

Barrow Deeps bosses: the BlizzCon demo names

Blizzard hasn’t announced a boss list. The only names so far are the 8 Blizzard Watch read from the Barrow Deeps challenge in the BlizzCon demo’s Legacy Challenges window. These are demo names, not an official roster, and the community datamine maf2414 found no raid map or boss records for the Barrow Deeps in the beta client tables it checked (build 1.60.1.69876).

Datamined, not announced: Wowhead found a Legacy achievement, “Conquerer of the Deeps” (spelled that way in the data), that asks you to defeat the Barrow Deeps’ encounters and earns 1 Legacy point. See WoW Forever Legacy.

Tier sets and the legendary

Blizzard ties new tier sets and a legendary reward to the two new raids together, without saying what drops where, and hasn’t shown the legendary.

Datamined, not linked to a raid yet: the beta client holds 18 sets named “Tier 1”, 6 items each, with no stats or drop source. Wowhead expects them from the Hyjal raids because the armor models it found are tagged Hyjal. The full list by class is in the WoW Forever raids guide.
