WoW Forever Beta Datamine: New Spells

The Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.69913) has 5,381 spell IDs the Classic Era client (1.15.9.69722) doesn’t. Take out the placeholders and internal spells and 4,995 are left, 3,874 of them with names Era has never had. Most are not buttons you press: a spell in the client is anything from a class ability to a quest effect. This page sorts them by kind and by class, and picks out what a player will notice.

Counted by us from the client’s own tables on . A spell in a beta client can change or be cut before launch.

Of the 5,381 new spell IDs, 386 are left out: 276 are marked do-not-translate or temporary, 34 are test spells, 63 are internal triggers, credits and visuals, and 13 have no name. Another 1,121 new IDs carry a name an Era spell already has: new ranks and remade spells. They are counted, since a remade spell is often a changed one, and the tables show them apart.

The biggest group, about two thirds, is “other”: spells no class, profession or collection owns, which is where NPC abilities, quest events and item effects live. They are the new content’s machinery rather than things you cast.

New spells by class

Class spells are the ones the client files under a class. Paladins lead by a margin, which fits the Horde getting Paladins through the Undead, and Priests follow; Warriors and Shamans get the fewest. “In the spell book” counts the new-named spells that sit in a class’s own spell lines: abilities and talents, not effects. Each class links to its ability page, which compares every trainer ability with Classic.

New Tier 1 set bonuses by spec

The clearest find: 72 set bonus spells the client names in its internal form, “Item - Tier 1 - class - spec, pieces”. Every class gets 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-piece bonuses, and five classes get them per spec (Druids four ways). Classic’s Tier 1 bonuses were one list per class; these are written by role.

The pattern is the same for everyone: a stat at 2 pieces (Hit, Haste, Spirit or Defense), a change to a utility spell at 3, damage against one kind of enemy, or healing, at 4, and at 5 pieces a bonus named after a signature spell. Several of those are from later expansions: Riptide, Lava Burst, Penance, Prayer of Mending, Frostfire Bolt. Their descriptions in the client settle what they do: each 5-piece bonus changes a spell the class already has (Riptide’s cooldown 1 second shorter, Lava Burst’s too, Frostfire Bolt more likely to trigger Missile Barrage and Fingers of Frost), none of them teaches one. Hover or tap a name for its full text; the new items page writes every set’s bonuses out. They belong to the Tier 1 class sets the client names without their pieces yet (new items), which the raids guide covers as datamined sets not yet linked to a raid.

Mounts and companions

The new mounts fit the new races: Galestriders for the Skyborne, and skeletal horses with a Forsaken Charger, the kind of class mount an Undead Paladin would summon. Warden Sabers, Devilsaurs and Druid Moose are new looks too. The companions include Mini Diablo and the Panda, the pets of the original Collector’s Edition, next to furbolg and ent pets.

Profession spells

Leatherworking, Blacksmithing and Tailoring again lead, in step with the new recipe items. This count takes every new spell in a profession’s line; each profession page lists only the new recipes, without renamed copies of old ones, so its numbers are smaller.

Sources and scope

Counted by us from the SpellName, SpellClassOptions, SkillLineAbility, SkillLine and SkillRaceClassInfo tables of the Forever beta client 1.60.1.69913, against the SpellName table of the Classic Era client 1.15.9.69722. The tooltips and descriptions come from the Spell, SpellEffect, SpellMisc, SpellPower, SpellCastTimes, SpellCooldowns and SpellRange tables, with the numbers filled in by the same renderer as the talent calculator’s texts, for a level 60 character without bonus spell or attack power; a text with a value the tables can’t give is left out. The tables don’t say what ships. How we count: beta datamine methodology; new items: new items in the client.

In the client, not confirmed

  • Being in the beta client doesn’t mean a spell ships; spells change and are cut before launch.
  • Numbers that grow with spell or attack power are shown for a character without either; in the game they are higher.
  • The Tier 1 set bonuses belong to sets whose pieces the client doesn’t name yet, so where the sets drop is unknown.
  • Our kinds follow the client’s own class and skill lines; a spell filed in no line lands in “other”.
