A new build with patch notes from Blizzard: 81 changes below, in our own words.
- Classic looting is back: a creature that dropped nothing can still be clicked.
- Visual effects no longer flicker on large creatures.
- Fixed creature behavior that could pull enemies from far away.
- New dungeon open for testing: City of Dalaran.
- Several weapons can be swapped inside one global cooldown again, for example a macro from a two-hander to sword and shield.
- Experience from killing creatures in dungeons is up by about 20%.
- Party experience for lower-level enemies is counted from your own level again, as in Classic Era, not from the highest-level member. If someone is far above the enemy, nobody gets experience, as before.
- Cooldown Manager: every class, racial abilities and trinkets are supported now. Consumables come in a later patch.
- Gamepad: the gamepad action bar is part of Edit Mode, and its settings (the compact bar among them) moved there from the options menu. They are not carried over: set them again. Edit Mode layouts are saved per interface type.
- Gamepad: a new indicator for hold actions, the map opens on the Quest Log so you can keep running, raid frame navigation is updated, and inputs no longer stop working after looting.
- Every beta player has been granted the Legacy Challenge: 16 Legacy Points to try the whole system.
- The cheapest Legacy reset costs 1 silver, and the price falls by one reset per hour. Beta only, like the talent reset price.
- Rage from damage taken: three calculation bugs fixed (it read your own health instead of an expected creature’s, mishandled critical and crushing blows, and counted absorbs wrongly). Blizzard: “The typical Warrior or Druid should be gaining more Rage from taking damage.”
- Rage gains were tuned for a Warrior with 50% Armor, a tank’s value. They are now tuned for 20% to 40%, by level, which fits a questing Warrior.
- Mana Potions can be used in Bear, Dire Bear and Cat Form (bug fix).
- Extra Rage from landing a critical strike: 100% (was 75%).
- Thorns: base damage back to the original WoW values, and the spell power ratio drops to 6% (was 13.3%).
- Cat Form no longer lowers your maximum health (bug fix).
- Bear Form and Dire Bear Form: threat bonus 50% (was 30%).
- Effects that replace a shapeshift form’s look work more like Classic: far fewer do it now, mostly those with another benefit (Noggenfogger Elixir still transforms you).
- Demoralizing Roar puts threat on every target it hits. It generated none.
- Wrath: ranks 1 to 5 retuned so ranks 1 to 6 grow evenly and each new rank is an upgrade.
- Predatory Instincts is renamed Natural Instinct and also raises spell healing by 12/25% of Intellect.
- Shifting Power can no longer be used at full Energy.
- Thick Hide is rebuilt in code, which fixes it not applying when gear is equipped while shapeshifted.
- Disengage: the threat reduction is doubled. It was meant to be earlier and had been missed.
- Hunter pets no longer gain health over and over at low health (bug fix).
- Unleashed Fury now really increases your pet’s damage.
- Improved Concussive Shot has the correct chance to trigger.
- Improved Wing Clip has the correct chance to trigger, and a lower one with ranks far below your level.
- Expose Prey lasts 10 seconds (was 5).
- Entrapment has diminishing returns and triggers only when Frost Trap first goes off, not on its later pulses.
- Impact no longer triggers from Flamestrike’s periodic damage.
- Frostbolt and Fireball ranks 1 to 5 and Arcane Missiles ranks 1 to 3 retuned, so the early ranks grow evenly and each new rank is an upgrade.
- Retribution Aura uses the Paladin’s spell power, not the struck target’s (bug fix).
- Retribution Aura: base damage back to the original WoW values, about 33% less, and the spell power ratio drops to 6% (was 13.3%).
- Reckoning can trigger at most once every 1.5 seconds.
- Seal of Fury no longer returns Mana without the Improved Seal of Fury talent (bug fix).
- Mana restored by Improved Seal of Fury and Shield Specialization no longer generates threat. Tanking Paladins were making more threat than intended.
- Smite ranks 1 to 4, Lesser Heal ranks 1 to 3 and Heal ranks 1 to 2 retuned, so each new rank is an upgrade.
- Penance: damage and healing reduced. It had been counted as a 3-second channel; it is a 2-second one.
- Penance: Mana costs changed so it stays more efficient than Heal and Greater Heal. Rank 1 costs 50% more.
- Penance: ranks 2 and 4 heal for more.
- Flametongue Totem uses a shapeshifted target’s attack speed instead of the speed of the weapon it has equipped.
- Lightning Bolt: ranks 1 to 5 retuned so ranks 1 to 6 grow evenly and each new rank is an upgrade.
- Elemental Focus is no longer triggered and used up at once by Fire Nova.
- Water Shield’s tooltip shows the Mana it restores and no longer names a 15-second cooldown it never had. Mana Tide Totem shows its pulse again.
- A Warlock’s current pet is stunned while a new one is being summoned.
- Shadow Bolt: ranks 1 to 4 retuned so ranks 1 to 5 grow evenly and each new rank is an upgrade.
- Demonic Brand: the pet’s bonus damage causes high threat only when it is Shadow damage.
- Demoralizing Shout puts threat on every target it hits. It generated none.
- Deep Wounds is required for Impale again.
- Deep Wounds no longer scales with attack power for the off-hand weapon (bug fix). It doesn’t scale with attack power at all.
- Last Stand grants the right amount of health (bug fix).
- Shoulder pieces of the new armor sets are drawn at the correct, smaller size.
- Wolfshead Helm gives 5 extra Energy when Shifting Power is used. Its Rage effect is unchanged.
- Various dungeon quest rewards go from Rare to Uncommon, with stats to match.
- The Truthseeker’s Bow (Greater Friend of the Library) requires level 40, like the chain’s other two rewards.
- Transformative Cocoon counts as a debuff. The Revelation enchant’s buff survives shifting into Ghost Wolf or a Druid form. Booty Bay Bruiser’s Buckshot no longer knocks back.
- Vendor prices of Enchanting-made items are reset: Minor Wizard Oil sells for 1 silver, the ten crafted wands for 5 copper (Novice’s Practice Wand) up to 25 silver (Greater Eternal Wand). The Peace Tea recipe sells for 10 copper.
- Sixteen rewards of the new Gelkis and Magram quests in Desolace are retuned, most of them only in power. A later hotfix makes them require level 35.
- Damage from Discolored Healing Potions no longer breaks crowd control.
- Critical strikes in PvP are no longer weakened.
- The Shipwreck Cove capture point appears where it should.
- Armor Kits that grant Attack Power no longer give twice as much Ranged Attack Power.
- Enchant Weapon - Recovery works for shapeshifted Druids.
- Will of the Forsaken can always be used while asleep or charmed (bug fix).
- “Blood Tithe” can be started again after certain other quests. The Night Watchman’s Torch shows its aura only on the bearer.
- Capital city barbers are replaced by local barbers.
- Desolace: the new Gelkis and Magram quests that start with “Valley of Bones” need level 35 (was 30).
- Tirisfal Glades: quests and creatures around Shadowvale and Bandarion Keep are higher level, since they were lower than the content before them.
- Duskwood: Stitches is hostile again on his way into Darkshire.
- Excavation Site: Wetlands: the Titan Relic from “Elder Knowledge” or “Lost Relic Carry” is handed back for the follow-up quests, so you don’t need a second one.
- Single quests fixed or eased in the Barrens, Dun Morogh, Durotar, Hillsbrad Foothills, Loch Modan, Mulgore, Orgrimmar, Redridge Mountains, Stonetalon Mountains and Teldrassil: faster respawns, map markers, quest items that are no longer used up.
- Rogue quest “Plundering the Plunderers” has map markers.
- Shaman quest “Storm, Earth, and Fire”: its creatures respawn faster and drop the twisted totems more often, from more sources. The Eye of the Tempest for “Heed My Call” drops for every party member.
- Warrior quest “Ulag the Cleaver”: the Mausoleum Trigger reactivates quickly.
- Voice chat can use Discord Voice (Audio settings; the party leader’s setting counts for the party), and a Group Finder posting can name a voice mode its members are prompted to join.
- The Inspect window is updated, and View Talents is a new option under Inspect in the target frame’s menu.
- Quest types are shown as text in the Quest Log, tracker and dialogue; the tracker shows quest level requirements.
- Interface: new combo point art, buffed stats are highlighted again, Specific Macros no longer shows General Macros, an earned Legacy Challenge opens its window on click, and the Character Info pane shows level and class.

Not in Blizzard’s notes
- Spearing Strike’s tooltip now says a mounted target is dismounted.
- Furor’s text is rewritten with the same numbers and now says Bear Form and Dire Bear Form give up the stored Energy. Whether it works differently isn’t stated.
- Thick Hide’s tooltip now reads its armor from your level; the notes only say the talent was rebuilt.
- Several fixes in the notes leave no trace in the client’s talent data (same text, numbers and tree spot): Shifting Power at full Energy, Improved Wing Clip, Improved Concussive Shot, Entrapment, Unleashed Fury, Impact, Elemental Focus, Last Stand and Improved Seal of Fury. They are server-side or scripted.
Our comparison of this build’s talent data marks 7 talents as changed: talent changes of October 8.
Server hotfixes on this build
- First listed October 9 (UTC): four pushes that touch spell tables. One re-sends the trigger row of the Rogue talent Cold Blood with the values the client already has; two change creature spells (Rend Flesh, Highland Venom) and a quest spell (Sacred Cleansing); one sets a flag on the two damage-over-time effects of a discolored healing potion. No talent and no trainer ability changed, and Blizzard posted nothing about them.
