GDKP Is Not Allowed in WoW Forever

Blizzard said in the September 17 Live Q&A that GDKP won’t be allowed in Forever, because gold-bid raids push guilds aside, raise the bar for new players and launder gold; there are no plans for a WoW Token or boosts either.

What Blizzard said

GDKP raids are runs where players bid gold on each item and share out the pot. Asked about them in the September 17 Live Q&A, Blizzard said they will not be allowed in Forever, and gave its reasons:

  • They push guilds aside. Once GDKP spreads, it overtakes guild structure, and Blizzard wants to protect the social side of the game.
  • They raise the bar for new players. When GDKP is everywhere, getting into raids is much harder for someone new.
  • They launder gold. Blizzard called GDKP a good way to launder gold.
  • Gold buying is the target. Blizzard will monitor the economy actively and come down hard on gold buying.

The Token and boost answer is “no plans”, not a promise for the life of the game.

What this means for you

  • Plan to gear through a guild or a regular group. Gold-bid raids are against the rules in Forever.
  • Don’t buy gold. Blizzard says it will come down hard on gold buying, and with no WoW Token planned there is no official way to turn money into gold.
  • Level in the open world. With dungeon monster experience cut, paying for dungeon boosts is a poor way to level, as the developers intended.
