Barrens Rares Drop a Set with a Zone Speed Bonus in WoW Forever

In the Forever beta, the Barrens rares Humar the Pridelord, Swiftmane and Takk the Leaper drop pieces of a set whose 2-piece bonus is 5% movement speed in the Barrens and Stonetalon Mountains. The beta client names it Blessing of Kalimdor and has two more new small sets built the same way.

Blessing of Kalimdor: the Barrens set

Wowhead reported on September 23 that three rare spawns in the Barrens now drop set pieces: Humar the Pridelord, Swiftmane and Takk the Leaper. The beta client’s item set table (build 1.60.1.69913) has the set, which is new: the Classic Era client doesn’t have it.

The client has the three pieces’ slots but not yet their names or stats, and it doesn’t say which rare drops which piece. Two of the three are enough for the bonus.

Two more sets built the same way

Blizzard’s designers told IGN Nordic that items in Forever can have “biome buffs”, such as a speed bonus while you’re in a desert, or bonus damage against a kind of creature such as dragons. Besides Blessing of Kalimdor, the beta client has two other new sets of two or three pieces (more new items are in the beta datamine of new items):

What this means for you

  • Kill the Barrens rares when you see them. Two pieces make the Barrens and Stonetalon faster to cross at the levels you spend there.
  • Expect more zone sets. The Plaguelands set adds mount speed at the other end of leveling, and Blizzard describes biome bonuses as part of how gear works in Forever.
  • It’s beta data. Pieces, bonuses and drops can change before launch on November 4.
