The 65 Legacy Challenges
Blizzard’s article, published September 23, is the first full list of Legacy Challenges. Until now the only lists came from BlizzCon demo screenshots and a datamine. There are 65 challenges in six categories, each worth 1 Legacy Point, and the points belong to your Battle.net account, available to all your non-Hardcore characters.
| Category | Challenges (1 point each) | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Classes | Reach level 25, 45 and 60 with each class | 27 |
| Tradeskills | Reach 150, 225 and 300 skill in each primary profession that isn’t a gathering one | 18 |
| Player vs. Player | PvP ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 (5); Exalted with each Battleground reputation (4); the week 4, 7 and 10 quests of the Field of Honor PvP season journey (3) | 12 |
| Adventure | Explore the entire world map on one character; complete the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline | 2 |
| Dungeons | Defeat the final boss of every dungeon of levels 15–25, of levels 26–45 and of levels 46–60 | 3 |
| Raids | Defeat Onyxia; all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses; all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses | 3 |
| Total | 65 |
Tradeskills means the six crafting professions: gathering (Herbalism, Mining, Skinning) and secondary professions earn no Legacy Points. Blizzard counts four Battleground reputations but doesn’t name them.
What one character can earn: 29
Blizzard stresses that alts are optional. At launch each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points, and a single character can earn up to 29 on its own:
| Source | Points |
|---|---|
| Leveling (25, 45 and 60) | 3 |
| Tradeskills (two crafting primaries) | Up to 6 |
| Player vs. Player | 12 |
| Adventure | 2 |
| Dungeons and raids | 6 |
| Total | 29 |
The cap is there so new players aren’t left far behind; points past 16 still move the reward track.
Access, perks and rewards
- Access. The Legacy System opens with your first Legacy Point: for most players when their first character reaches level 25, or by reaching 150 in a crafting profession or exploring the entire world map. Open it with the shield icon on the menu or the default hotkey Y.
- Perks. Characters spend points in three trees, Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness, each on its own. The article describes 21 perks, 7 per tree, the same ones the BlizzCon demo showed; it gives no ranks or numbers.
- Rewards. Four at launch: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, the Spectral Bear Cub pet, the Spectral Bear Tabard and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount. Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap showed them at 15, 25, 40 and 55 points. New ones are planned for each content update.
Hardcore
- Challenges completed on the other rulesets don’t show up in Hardcore, but a challenge earned on Hardcore counts on all of them.
- PvP challenges can’t be done on Hardcore, so Hardcore, which isn’t available at launch, opens with 12 challenges of its own.
- Blizzard plans more Hardcore-specific challenges and perks later.
What comes next
Blizzard plans new Legacy Challenges in every content release, new perks in the existing trees for now and new trees later, and more cosmetic and toy rewards as the track grows.
What this means for you
- You don’t need an alt for the 16-point cap. One character can earn 29, so the cap is reachable on your main.
- Pick at least one crafting profession for Legacy Points. A gathering pair such as Herbalism and Mining earns none; two crafting professions earn up to 6.
- PvP is the biggest source on one character. 12 of its 29 points come from ranks, Battleground reputations and the Field of Honor journey.
- Plan your perks. Our WoW Forever Legacy System guide has every challenge, a first-character points calculator and a perk planner.
Still unknown
- What later perk ranks do and cost, and how the trees are laid out.
- Which four Battleground reputations count, and which dungeons fall in each level range.
- What the 12 Hardcore challenges are.
- When the 16-point spending cap rises.
