Increased Weather Effects Are Coming to the WoW Forever Beta

Community manager Kaivax opened a thread called “Increased Weather Effects” on the Forever forum on September 23. The whole post is “Coming soon to the Beta” and a 38-second video from the official World of Warcraft YouTube channel, titled “Increased weather effects are coming to WoW: Forever Beta Zones”. Wowhead reported it the same day.

Blizzard hasn’t said which zones get more weather, when the beta build with it arrives, or whether it changes anything besides the look. There was no other Blizzard reply among the thread’s 93 posts when we read it; players there asked for more snow and blizzards, and for a setting in case heavy weather blocks the view.

Weather in the beta client

The client keeps the kinds of weather the game can show, such as rain, snow or dust, as rows of a weather table. The Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.69913) has almost three times as many as Classic Era:

The table doesn’t say which zone uses which weather or whether a row is switched on, so it can’t show where the new weather will appear.

What this means for you

• The beta world will look different soon. If you’re in the beta, the next builds may bring more weather to the zones you play in.
• There’s nothing to prepare. Blizzard hasn’t said weather affects combat or travel.
• It’s beta data. What reaches launch on November 4 can differ.
